Didier is Director of Research at the French Research Council (CNRS) where he was hired in January 1997. He is employed at the Institute of Research in Astrophysics and Planetology, hosted by the University of Toulouse.
On the scientific side, his research is centered on the analysis and the interpretation of X-ray data collected by space observatories from various X-ray sources, including X-ray binaries and Active Galactic Nuclei. More recently, he has been investigating how deep learning can help us in analyzing complex X-ray data.
On the instrumental side, since 2013, he is acting as the Principal Investigator of the X-ray Integral Field Unit (X-IFU) to fly on board the NewAthena X-ray Observatory. X-IFU is developed by an international consortium of 12 European countries and the United States. It is led by the French Space Agency (CNES) and involves the technical or scientific contributions of about 300 members, spread in about 50 different organizations.
