Today marks a decade of the Athena Community Office (ACO). Since our inception, our primary goal has been to serve as a bridge between the mission and the global scientific community, ensuring everyone remains informed, involved, and ready for the next generation of X-ray astronomy.

Supporting the Community Through Action

The ACO remains busy year-round facilitating the exchange of knowledge and resources. Our work focuses on keeping the community engaged through a variety of steady activities:

  • Knowledge Sharing: Hosting regular science webinars and maintaining an extensive newsletter archive to keep everyone updated on mission progress.
  • Scientific Tools: Providing links to essential simulation tools and a comprehensive repository of publications and presentations to support community research.
  • Events & Outreach: Organizing major conferences and creating outreach materials, including our "Science and Tech Nuggets," to make complex mission data accessible.
  • The People Behind the Science: We believe in showing the faces behind the mission, which is why we continue to curate biographies of the researchers and technical teams   contributing to this ambitious project.

A New Design for a New Era:  We are celebrating this anniversary by sharing the updated design for NewAthena. See front and back designs in our Gallery page.

As we look toward the 2027 adoption, the ACO remains committed to keeping the community at the heart of the mission. Thank you for being part of this journey with us.
