The SPIE Astronomical Telescopes and Instrumentation conference has been held from June 10 to 15 in Austin (United States). During this prestigious event for developers of space-based telescopes and future instrumentation, the Athena project has been well represented in several sessions.
The optics of the mission was extensively debated, starting with a dedicated poster session on June 11, followed by several talks during the session “Optics: Athena + Lynx”, chaired by Giovanni Pareschi.
There were three sessions dedicated to Athena on June 13. The first one was about general aspects of the mission, starting with a general introduction to the mission and its science objectives by Kirpal Nandra. It was followed by two general talks on the status of the WFI and X-IFU instruments, by Norbert Meidinger and Didier Barret, respectively. This session was complemented with one session devoted to each instrument, discussing key technological aspects. As a final touch, 27 posters dealing with a variety of technical aspects related to the mission and the instruments were debated on the afternoon of June 13.
